Blind Channel Resort
Blind Channel Resort is just around the corner from Green Point Rapids and is open to the channel. This means the moving water affects how you get in and out of the Resort. We were coming in at low tide so there is not much forgiveness if you miss your mark. David timed it perfectly and we arrived with enough slack to get everyone safely settled in. We weren’t the only ones arriving and the dock hands were busy.
Here is a view of our docking experience. It was low tide and we had to squeeze between the land shelf (green color) and the dock in 9.5 feet of water to get into our spot. We had to pass a boat already on the dock so we had to be very careful on our approach. The graphic shows 65 feet, but we actually only had about 50. Our boat, with kayaks, is about 18 feet wide and 44 feet long. We needed to turn around so we could be headed bow out. Slow and steady and we made it in without any issue. Thank you to our new friend Joel who suspected this would be our spot and encouraged us by saying it was a piece of cake. We learned it was a very slim piece of cake.
Just as we came around the corner to our docking spot, we witnessed a cinnamon colored black bear being chased out of the yard of the resident of the home shown in the picture above. Because ‘all hands were on deck’, no one was able to get a picture, but he was very handsome. But then… he was at a full sprint headed to the tide flats, when he almost came face to face with a couple walking on the beach. Everyone watching held their breath as there was nothing we could do and didn’t want to distract the couple away from the coming bear. The couple and the bear abruptly stopped, and then each slowly moved away from each other. With enough distance between them, the bear took off running into the woods. Whew, that was quite a show.
Time for some afternoon activities. A quick hike out to the point to view the channel. The water runs swiftly through this channel and it's impressive to watch.
Keith's impression of a large grizzley bear at the base of this amazing tree that is 16 feet in diameter. I think I would be more afraid of him than a bear. He looks ferocious.
Finished off the day at the beautiful restaurant and enjoyed very good food. Notice the art on the wall. It's all made from the wife of the original owers. She collected glass, shells and items found on the grounds and beach around the resort and made art. See below for more pieces on display.
There were many pieces on display and each so unique. The current owners are her grandson and his family, the third generation. He lovingly shared stories about his grandmother's artistry and their history. It is beautiful place.
Second day was very rainy, but it didn’t affect these cute little otters as they played and hunted for food. As for the rest of us, we stayed inside, relaxed, did chores and played games.
