Cruising Halong Bay April 10, 2024 deb flewelling After a three hour drive to the coast, we boarded a beautiful old wooden ship for a 24 hour, four star cruise out into Halong Bay. Our room was on the second floor near the front. Balcony’s were available for all the rooms and while they were small, they were wonderful. We weren’t the only boat heading out, it was quite the floatilla. The rock formations and scenery were just stunning. All of the meals were top chef quality. This was the lunch course with pumpkin soup, smoked salmon and greens, deep fried squid, sauted bananas and dessert cream, stuffed chicken rolls over mashed potatoes. We didn’t go hungry. Hana entered the spring roll competition, where she had to wrap a perfect spring roll. She didn’t come in first, but she didn’t in last either. There was much laughter. The afternoon excursion was a trip to the Hang Sung Sot caves - they were beautiful and massive. The boat only holds about 40 people so it was very comfortable and quaint. We made several friends and enjoyed great conversations. This is Phil and Emma on their honeymoon. There were table mates and we had a great time sharing travel and life stories - it was fascinating. Being on the water is my happy place and this was no different.
