Nanaimo Stop

Slack tide through Dodd Narrows was at 1:45 so that gave us the morning to play a bit more on Ruxton before heading over. We decided one more time to drop pots and ended up with a small fish and a few shrimp. At least we were catching something - hahaha - we threw him back.

Passing through the narrows is like a parade, there are spectators, on both sides, watching, picnicing, waving. It is quite an event, but no drama this time. Everyone was staged on both sides of the pass, waiting. If the tide change is gentle, like it was this time, the power boats can go through early and the sailboats wait until true slack. Because we were still going with the tide, we had priority and were able to easily go through 30-45 minutes early.

Our boating companions had reservations at a local marina resort and our hope was to get a spot on the reciprocal dock at the Nanaimo Yacht Club. We were in luck and got the last one. This saved us from having to get on a bouy at the park, and allowed us to do laundry, top off the water, run to town, etc.

The weather is perfect so we will cross the Georgia Strait the next day, but first, we needed to make a run to the marine store. We got up early, got to the stores as they were opening, back to the boat and off we went. It was a quick stop that was productive.

Note: I didn’t have any anxiety coming into Nanaimo, but sure had fresh memories from our last visit.
