Desolation Sound Welcomes

We rounded the corner at the north point of Malaspina Peninsula….

… and what a spectacular view lay before us. The mountains were georgeous, the water was pristine, and there was a sense of reverence as we entered this beautiful provincial park.

We passed two back packers on paddle boards headed across a large body of water to a little camping island. Dave H asked if they needed help and they declined. We were impressed at their determination and then found there were many campers on the little islands… we weren’t sure how they all got there but it appeared to be by kayak or paddle board. What a beautiful day to make this long journey.

We were all moving slow, respect for others, but we also didn’t want to disturb the beauty so Keith took advantage of the opportunity and grabbed a front row seat.

Our first destination was Prideaux Haven, Melanie Cove. There were a number of boats already there but not so crowded that we couldn’t find a comfortable anchor/stern tie spot. This was the first stern tie event for some of our fleet and everyone pitched in to help. It’s easy in perfect conditions - flat calm, no wind!

Happy hour was a dingy tour as we meandered through the coves and inlets. You just never know what you’re going to encounter on the water. One boat in the bay was the evening’s entertainment with a live concert from the back of his boat. Everyone rafted up and enjoyed the tunes. He was pretty good and it was fun for all but when he started in on the kids songs, we made a quiet exit.
