A 3 Island Tour

There are several smaller islands and fun destinations to tour around Holbox. A 3 island tour took us to Isla Pajaros, Isla Pasion (a different one), and Yalahua Lagoon.

First stop was Isla Pajaros, a small island of mangroves filled with wildlife and birds. We couldn’t actually get on the island but were able to climb to the top of a large tower and view the landscape. The pod of pelicans weren’t phased by the guests and we found them very interesting.

Second stop was Yalahua Lagoon where a natural spring cenote is tucked just inside the mangroves. Everyone was encouraged to wear swimsuits and we were glad we did, we all jumped in. It was a requirement to wear the life vests and they were a pain, but the cool water felt so good.

Third stop was Isla Pasion, again another small island. This one was not a natural preserve and we were able to walk around the island in the shallow water. It also had a tall tower for guests who didn’t want to walk around. As we were boarding the boats to leave, I noticed a very wet eagle on the thatched roof of the building. He was standing precariously when I realized he had a live fish. He became the star of the show as he kept his talons clenched around his prey waiting for it to die. Then he began to eat his lunch. He was much smaller than the eagles we have at home, but just as beautiful and fierce.

Catfish was on the menu and lunch was served.
