We love to eat and we love to try new things. Here are some of our experiences and we hope they inspire you.


Sushi on the beach

I had a hankering for fresh fish and vege’s and this was just the ticket. We’re at a small beach restaurant in Holbox where we found the best food. The only thing missing was the pickled ginger and wasabi. It was so yummy!

Ceviche in a cup

This is shrimp and salmon ceviche and it is actually about 3 inches tall, molded from a cone type container. It was fabulous. This was at an restaurant in Playa del Carmin that was hidden up a flight of stairs. They had a very old sign on the street that said “best fish in town”. They weren’t kidding.

A taste of Italy

Some of the non-traditional food is just as delicious. Here is our evening out for a plate of lasagna and a baguette with soft cheese and olive tapenade.

Fish tacos, chips, guacamole with tomato salsa

Scallops with bone marrow - appetizer

I would have never thought of this combination but it was the most amazing. This was the delivery presentation to the table, with the beautifully seared scallops resting on a bone. The next picture shows the plating.

Very gracefully, the scallops were moved onto the toast bites and the marrow was drizzled over the top. This was truly decadent and we could have had a whole meal of just this.

This is the smoked pork platter at our lunch outside of Ek Balam, complete with black bean sauce, tortillas and condiments.

Coffee and Almond Croissants

We are always on the lookout for a great coffee shop with yummy pastries. We found this place in the artesian area of Valladolid when we first arrived, but it was Sunday and they were closed. On a quiet day later in the week, we ventured out again. After a 20 minute walk from our home, it was well worth the journey.

Dinner at Nixtamal

A fantastic meal, recommended by one of our sailing guides. You wouldn’t know it but this is salmon, spiced with chocolate and grilled over an open flame and cooked just perfectly. Presented on a bed of grilled vegetables and a portabello mushroom with goat cheese and blueberries. Thank you Amy, this was so good.

Second Meal at Nixtamal

This was the second meal and it was equally as amazing. Grilled Grouper served over a grilled watermelon with a salad. It too was most delicious and so flakey and tender. It was a good thing we had walked because we needed to work some of this off.

Gin & Tonic - my favorite drink but with flare!

Honey Garlic Shrimp Salad

Found this recipe online from Half Baked Harvest and it was so good. It also includes bacon, avocado, grilled corn and cherry tomatoes. It was just delicious.
