Adventures by sea

We have been dreaming and planning for this day for years. We LOVE being on the water and can’t wait to start exploring again and for longer periods of time. We planned a week to provision - grocery shopping, finish the maintenance projects, and make sure everything we need is on board . This was also the first time we were able to put the ‘new to us’ Trophy in the water. It did very well and Keith spent time loading it with all the fishing stuff.

Our goal is to be self sufficient so we only need to land for fuel, dump waste, and garbage. Our ToDo list was 3 pages long, everything from getting fishing licenses to menu lists for meals. Let’s just say, we like being organized, but there comes a point when we have to stop and just go!

We are headed to Canada - The Sunshine Coast, Princess Louisa Inlet, Desolation Sound, Johnstone Strait and any and all places in between. We enjoy meeting up with friends, some we already know, others we just met, and some we haven’t met yet. Everyone has a story to tell and we always learn something new. It may be just standing on the dock, or over a glass of wine - it’s part of what boating is all about.

We checked weather and currents and chose Tuesday morning to launch - all was ready - let the adventures (and memories) begin again.

First stop was Fossil Bay on Sucia and found we weren’t the only ones there, one other boat is also in the bay. Maiden voyages are always stressful, remembering the sequence of tasks, getting your sea legs, relearning the tricks of boating that have rusted a bit over the winter. We encountered some rough weather and it slowed us down a bit but it was a good opportunity to practice bad weather procedures. As soon as we got everything settled while fighting the wind, the wind died down - which is so typical.

The bay is full of eagles and we enjoyed listening to them chatter to each other. We took a few pictures to share with a special family member, to show them how it’s done - because that is how loving we are! We chuckled at the funny memories.

The other problem with maiden voyages, they make you want to nap…..
