Douglas Bay

A great little cove just inside a long inlet, before the Whirlpool rapids. This gives us a head start the following morning as we traverse the first set of rapids. We were surrounded by beautiful mountains with white and grey clouds, like whip cream on top. I had been up early due to the wind storm, so it was a long day as we traveled most of the trip in Johnstone Strait with fog, wind, current and wind waves. The current was going with us, but the wind was opposing us so we had a bit of chop. The AutoHelm was inoperable so it was all manual steering which gets tiring in troubled waters.

There were a number of boats in the strait - and several of them just a little too chatty. Everyone was on alert as not all boats have AIS so they were not visible on the Garmin chartplotter. Radar was on, a must for the fog and Navionics on, showing the route and our location on it. I subscribe to 'use all the tools' method of boating! By the time we landed four hours later, some of us were very tired and needed a quick nap.

In the bay with us were two sailboats we have anchored with several times before... Wings and Ribbet. Everyone eventually comes full circle.
