Squirrel Monkeys

And then we encountered monkeys, hundreds of them. There are four different breeds living in this forest - Squirrel, White faced, Howlers, and Spider. We were only able to see the first two breeds as the Howler monkeys were farther back up the channel. The tide was going out and we didn’t have enough water to safely make it back to them.

The first group was Squirrel Monkeys. They stayed up in the trees but would come down on a branch and hang over the water. They weren’t intimated by the boat but we didn’t go to close either.

We could have sat there all day and watched these little characters, but we wanted to see the White Faced monkeys and heard from a passing boat they were just ahead.
