Red Rocks of Moab

All new adventures are planned for our three days. First day, I want to go for a bike ride and hubby asks if we can do something a ‘little less strenuous’ than the 17 mile ride ‘up the mountain’, ‘on slick rock and sand’, ‘in the heat of the day’. I took mercy on him so we did an easier ride in town. It was still 17 miles from one end of town to the other, but all on the back roads. It was great fun seeing all the little communities and their beautiful views. We were surprised how much growth there is hidden off the main path and with a lot of new construction.

The afternoon adventure was driving the La Sal loop through the mountains.

This is Castle Valley approaching the La Sal's from the north. These three pictures are taken from the same place. Notice how there is red rock on the left, and grey rock on the right. It is so odd, but the road splits the two. The Castle is the spire on the red rock and Round Mountain is the grey one. It is smaller but has some fascinating rock formations at the top that looks like a crown.

We are now at the top of the La Sal's looking back down the valley. Notice in the distance the Castle Spire - what a beautiful place. Although the road was narrow and windy, there were a fair amount of trailers boondocking in the trees, along with some large range cows looking very healthy at the end of the season.
