We loved Chiang Mai

Wow, what a difference from Bangkok. This town is mid-sized with much less hustle and bustle. There are lots of walkable streets, and smaller communities to visit. We felt safe and comfortable to walk around, even at night.

The only drawback was the smokey skies. It was the end of the growing season when they burn all their fields. The smoke lingered the entire time we were there, but you couldn’t smell it. It was just a heavy haze.

Chiang Mai was full of ruins. Everywhere you went you could see remnants of walls and buildings. This wall is part of the old city wall with a mote across the street that surrounded the city. As you can see, it is now a gathering place to feed the pigeons.

One of the larger ruins was an ancient palace or temple.

Notice the elephants on the building. They are very important to the Thai people.
