Rest Stop at Maple Bay
Another favorite place to visit. The anchoring here is a challenge so we got a spot on the dock and were able to keep the trophy side tied to us. How fun it was to have electricity, water, and land that you can walk to. Don’t get me wrong, we love to anchor out, but the occasional visit to shore is a treat. We took full advantage of the amenities, did laundry, washed off the boat (no restrictions on water yet), and had dinner with our trip mates.
One of the benefits of a five boat group… we got the covered picnic area reserved for us. It included a bbq, a bag of charcoal (left from the previous guests), tables and chairs. As you can see, Silly Sue was so impressed with our good fortune. We all brought our own meals, and then the boys sat at one table and the girls at another. I recently learned the nautical term for this is inboards at one table, outboards at another. Don’t ask how I learned this, it was embarassing, but funny.
It was sad to see how much Covid affected the economy here. The large chandlery was gone and the grocery store had two shelves with very few items. The area is still beautiful and the restuarant was busy, so it was still inviting. Hopefully as the years continue, it will grow back.
