Theitus Island - a day of fun!

Next stop was Telegraph Harbor on Theitus Island. The four boats had reservations at the marina and we anchored (and successfully stern tied) at the mouth of the channel. This was a two night stay and it was nice to have time for activities.

First afternoon was just settling in and of course, our much loved happy hour on the dock. The group isn’t big drinkers, so we just bring a soda to go with our snacks. It’s the time with friends that is important.

Next morning, most everyone was up early and ready for a hike, even Jake. We all love Jake, he is a great addition to the group. A couple of the fellas stayed behind (probably to sleep in). It was a great hike, but the mosquitos were awful. At one point, we could see the cloud of pests forming behind David W - Lisa later referred to him as Pigpen and everyone laughed, except David. We couldn’t get back to the boat (and the Benedryl) fast enough.

On our way to the trailhead, we found this very important marker along side of the road.

Next adventure was catching a ferry over to Chemainus for the afternoon. These are small inter-island ferries and the crew members know just about everyone and they had a great sense of humor. When we were returning, one of the crew members chuckled and said “Oh, it’s you folks again”. We all laughed.

Last adventure of the day, a dingy race through the channel after happy hour. This is a small channel between Penelakut and Theitus Islands and even at high tide, there are areas with only three feet of water and can do some damage if you’re not careful (ask David H about a previous trip).

The race was on and the boat in the back decided a water fight would be more fun. Fortunately, either Keith wasn’t a very good aim, or they just couldn’t keep up, and no one got wet. When we reached the other side, the slowest boat was no where to be seen, so we all headed back to check on them. Little did we know they were laying in wait for our return, and then the race was on to see who could get past them without getting wet. It was crazy fun!
