Exploring V
Again, we look forward to exploring our new surroundings. It’s Sunday morning so, after spending time on-line with our church service, we head out to see what we can find. First search, a good coffee shop with pasteries. We know the general direction and just start walking when we come upon this beautiful little artesian community. Most of the shops were closed but we found what we were looking for. We plan to come back later in the week when everything is open. This is a must see.
The weather was overcast so it was a cool, quiet, peaceful walk. Coming from Seattle, overcast is not a good thing, but in Mexico, it’s the respite you need from the hot sun and sweltering heat. The local families are all taking advantage of the coolness too and are beautifully dressed for church.
We were sitting quietly on a park bench and I looked down to see the ground moving. Having seen these before, I knew what they were - leaf cutting ants. They were just fascinating as they moved across the sidewalk in a single line and over to their tree home. It was a freeway of ants. If you look closely to the picture, you can see the portions of leaves. I’ve included a video to better show how these fascinating ants work.
After our morning journey, we spend the rest of the day resting and playing games. One of us got whooped at Gin Rummy - Rats!
Evening comes and it is time to venture out again. Every square is flanked by a cathedral or church. This is where the people gather and it is a beautiful site. Because it is a cool evening, we know the square will be packed and we are right. Everyone is out enjoying time together, kids are running and playing, there is a lot of holding hands, strolling, and chattering. But not by just the people. As the sun fades, the magpies are coming in to roost in the trees for the night. They are so loud, they drown out the local music and it becomes a cacophony of sound - but it is all pleasing to hear.
We always enjoy seeing a place of worship. On our way back home, we pass another little square and get a peek inside the church - their doors are always open and welcoming.
