Isla Tortuga & Montezuma
It is our second day in Tambor and we have booked a boat ride out to Isla Tortuga for the day. But first …
Keith had to get his new GoPro all set up so we could use it on the trip. You have to try it all out!
The tour pickup point is in Montezuma, a small beach community located almost at the southern tip of the peninsula. It was a 50 minute drive down and we didn’t want to park our car there all day. The tour company offered to pick us up on our beach in a boat and take us to Montezuma beach.
That was much faster and more fun, especially with the front row seat.
The trip out to Isla Tortuga took about 45 minutes and we got to watch humpback whales feed along the way. They were pretty close and we were reminded just how big they are. We also enjoyed bottle nose dolphins as they played in the wake of the boat.
Our first stop was at Rainbow Arch Island, where the flora turns many colors in the spring and fall. There wasn’t much color now, but it was cool to see the natural rainbow arch in the rock.
Second stop was Isla Tortuga, a small island where we went snorkling - with a lot of other snorkelers - but there was plenty of fish to see for everyone. Because there were so many boats, the water was murky and the pictures and videos didn’t come out very well.
Third and last stop was a large beach where we were served a great lunch and then swam and played for several hours. It was a fun afternoon.
On our way back, the boat dropped us off at our beach and we walked five minutes home. Door to door water taxi service - now that’s the way to travel.
We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging by the pool, watching the Macaws play above us, and then headed back down to Montezuma for dinner. What a trip that was.
We followed Google maps which took us over some very bumpy dirt roads - apparently Google doesn’t know if the road is paved or not….. The scenery was great, the road was not. We all agreed it would have been faster to take the main road, which we did on our way home.
