Squirrel Cove Aug 29 Written By deb flewelling Our goal was to see as many new places as we could and this was a new stop. We stayed two nights and it felt great to not be moving every day. What a beautiful little cove with plenty of fun things to do. We love kayaking... slow, quiet, beautiful, and you can get close up and personal with the scenery. This is a small channel between the bay and a salt water lake at low tide. But wait until high tide.... We paddled in while water was flooding into the lake. It was great fun running the rapids and felt like a Disneyland ride, only there wasn't a big splash at the end. As the water slowed down, some of us paddled against the current and ran the rapids again. We paddled around the little lake until the tide shifted and then we ran the rapids going out. What a fun time. This was a mom and three kids, the oldest shown here swinging on the outside of the boat. He looked to be about 14 and the smallest was a little girl about seven. It appears they had been here for a while, but we didn't know if it was just a long summer vacation. They were having fun and had plenty to do. Holly, David, Keith, and I took a great hike over to Von Donop Inlet where we stayed on our last trip. As we were returning, we found this sign. Hmm, maybe that was the sound in the bushes. deb flewelling
